Hard samples such as muscle, skin, and bone represent a significant challenge for extraction of target analytes such as proteins and nucleic acids. Proteins are an important target in scientific research, and their extraction and recovery is an important first step in proteomic research, and traditional disruption methods may include incubation in the presence of harsh chemicals or pulverization under cryogenic conditions, which can be challenging for some labs. In this application note, we demonstrate reliable protein extraction from tough tissues from rats, including skin, tail, tongue, back muscle, and bone via bead milling homogenization.
