Research is critical to better understand Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS), at times associated with maternal opioid use. Umbilical cords and placental tissues are common matrices in the study of drug and toxicology assessment in newborn disease research, as well as research applications on regenerative medicines. In this application note, we evaluate the efficiency of the Omni THq handheld homogenizer to streamline the homogenization of formalin-fixed umbilical cords and placental tissues. Using our rotor- stator technology with 12 mm Omni Tip™ hybrid probes that contain single-use, disposable plastic shafts, we provide a proof-of-concept study for an automated workflow solution.
