The umbilical cord tissue is a useful sample matrix, especially for the analysis of biomarkers or biomolecules that presents themselves in the blood at measurable concentrations for only a short time. Sample homogenization is an important step upstream of multiple analysis methods across the spectrum of obtainable analytes. We explore the efficiency of sample homogenization of fixed umbilical cord tissues using the Omni Bead Ruptor Elite bead mill homogenizer via extraction and quantification of total proteins.
