Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a key model organism in microbiology and molecular biology, largely due to applications in recombinant DNA technology. Bead milling offers an efficient alternative to sonication for extracting DNA and proteins from E. coli, offering the additional benefit of processing multiple samples simultaneously while maintaining molecular integrity. We demonstrate the Omni Bead Ruptor 4’s ability to extract DNA and proteins from E. coli K12 cells effectively at various speed settings, without significant heat generation or DNA shearing, making it a suitable solution for heat-sensitive biological samples.
