Placenta and umbilical cords are common research samples to help study the effects of chemical exposures during pregnancy, as well as other biomarkers. We review the utility of bead beating homogenization on the Omni Bead Ruptor Elite™ bead mill homogenizer as a quicker and efficient sample prep alternative to traditional methods that tend to rely on manual processes and harsh chemicals on previously fixed placenta and umbilical cords. It helps streamline the process by yielding a complete homogenate in just 90 seconds, with homogenates being suitable for downstream nucleic acids extraction and qPCR amplification.
