Research has previously shown that the Human coronavirus 229E (HCoV-229E) has been detected in fecal samples, indicating potential for fecal-oral transmission. As a proof-of-concept study, the Omni Bead Ruptor Elite bead mill homogenizer was used to extract different titers of viral RNA from spiked fecal samples with downstream RT-qPCR analysis. In this application note, we demonstrated the efficiency of bead milling, effectively eliminating the need for multiple incubation steps typically found in traditional fecal nucleic acid sample preparation protocols. It required only 30 seconds for simultaneous processing of up to 24 samples, showing significant time-savings and increased throughput, improving turnaround time (TAT) and streamlining RNA-based workflows.
